Best Golf Courses to Visit: Royal Coachman Blog

New Jersey is known as The Garden State for a reason. Even though it has the highest population density among states, there’s plenty of beautiful, open land. This is one of the reasons NJ has so many amazing golf courses.

Here are some of the best golf courses NJ has to offer:

Pine Valley

Not online is Pine Valley the best golf course in the state, according to Golf Magazine it’s also the best course in the entire world! It’s not easy to play on Pine Valley Golf Club, however. There are just over 900 country club members, and you have to be a guest of theirs to play the course.

If you’re lucky enough to experience Pine Valley, you’ll find 18 unforgettable holes. The course is challenging, with sprawling sand dunes, lakes, and enormous barren bunkers. You’re often presented with unique strategic decisions, deciding between a safe shot or a heroic one.

RiverWinds

If you’ve hit every course throughout the state, RiverWinds may present you the chance to try a new course. RiverWinds golf course is barely a teenager, having opened in 2002. It’s set alongside the Delaware river, giving golfers a gorgeous view of the water and the Philadelphia skyline.

Owned and operated by legendary Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski, RiverWinds emulates the classic links-style golf courses of Ireland and Scottland. Mounds protect many of the fairways, with strategically placed bunkers and water hazards littering the grasslands. The winds coming off of the river provide a unique challenge that’s hard to find anywhere else in the state.

Atlantic City Country Club

The Atlantic City Country Club is a beautiful, historic golf courses located on the bay miles from the Atlantic Ocean in Northfield, NJ. In fact, the terms ‘birdie’ and ‘eagle’ were both coined at the course, way back in 1903.

Stiff winds and long, demanding holes highlight this historic course. The back-9 give you a spectacular view of the Atlantic City skyline across the bay, and the winds kick up to make it even more challenging.

Neshanic Valley

Another newer golf course, Neshanic Valley was opened in 2004 to immediate praise from critics and golfers alike. Neshanic Valley covers over 400 acres of preserved farmland and wetlands in Somerset, NJ. Golfweek ranks Neshanic Valley as a top-50 municipal golf course, and it even hosted the 2014 NJ Golf Association’s Championship.

Golfers choose between three amazing 9-hole courses: Lake, Meadow and Ridge. All of them offer unique challenges, including natural long-grass and water hazards. There’s even a 9-hole Academy Course for beginners, complete with a driving range, short range practice area, putting green, and practice holes.

Have you played any of these courses? Which ones did we miss? Make sure to leave us a comment below! And if you want to make your golf outing even more special, remember us here at Royal Coachmen – we’ll be happy to pick you up in style, no matter how many rounds you had afterwards at the club house!
