The holiday season is a time for enjoying yourself. You can eat too much, drink too much and generally do all the things you wouldn’t normally do, all guilt free.
But you can’t just do nothing for two weeks; you need to stay on top of your game.
Famous Olympian, Daley Thompson once said: “I train twice on Christmas Day because I know the others aren’t training at all, so it gives me two extra days.”
While we are not saying you need to work all day on Christmas Day, you can stay productive over the holiday period and still enjoy yourself. So, when you go back to work, you’ll be one step ahead of the competition.
Here are our top tips to stay productive and still enjoy the holidays.
This one won’t be too popular with everyone. We are not saying don’t have a drink at all, just that you should avoid drinking too much. Make sure you limit yourself to a couple of drinks and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. That way you can wake up fresh the next morning with no hangover and you won’t waste the day.
If you are going to have a feast, make sure you don’t go to bed straight after. A food hangover can be just as bad as an alcohol hangover. Go for a walk after your food to make sure it is properly digested.
You don’t have to wait untill New Year’s Day to start getting in shape. Start an exercise regime over the winter holidays so can get a head-start over everyone else. You will feel a lot more productive throughout the day if you start it with a jog.
They are called the holidays for a reason. You need to have some downtime, but you don’t want to get carried away and sit on the couch for a whole week. Plan some time to spend with your family, where you can shut your laptop screen and really relax.
This really depends on how you work best. Some people can jump straight out of bed and work non-stop whereas some people work best late at night. Whatever works for you, it is a good idea to get your work done before you rest and spend time with your family. Otherwise, you will be distracted and think about work constantly.
If you really want to spend some quality time with the family, you should turn off your phone and laptop off, so you aren’t distracted. Leave your colleagues or customers with an emergency contact option and make sure they know it is only for emergencies. Otherwise they can email you.
Ask yourself what you need to get done over the holiday period. Make a To-Do list that you can achieve, so you don’t get carried away and forget to enjoy yourself.
